A great documentary about the dying art of painting advertisements on NY Buildings. The importance of hand painted advertisements, to me is similar to that of the letterpress. There just isn’t a better way sometimes. I also do enjoy the filming method in which this was done.
Here’s an interesting read about the ever-changing internet as a source of what we call ‘inspiration’. It takes what we think about when we see these sorts of blogs and websites.
I picked up a great little mobile typewriter the other week, being swamped with work i’ve only just now been able to play with it. It’s a Brother Charger 11 Correction, with the ink roller still in it! So I was playing around with it. This is great bit of machinery! I can’t believe we take for granted our keyboards on our $1500 laptops.
An interesting site I ran across through ‘Illustration Mundo’. If you’re an artist and notice someone blatantly using your work, here’s a link that can set you on the right way to stop them.
Copyright laws are crucial to know for any person in any of the creatives fields, to ignore them simply would mean that you will commit it sooner than later.
We’re back after a slight offline moment, and what cooler than to rebrand your Banana.
An interesting rebrand campaign by designer DJ Neff. This new site allows you to create your own sticker, in a simplified 3 color way.
Very subtle but great designs can be made from this system. The pre-designed faces pieces are designed to fit the Chiquita rebrand pretty well.. there’s also a store to buy designed faces on numerous clothes and things.
Check it out, you may make a face you find strangely satisfying.
What a fantastic read.
I can’t really make anymore comments than that.
This is possibly the easiest read in explaining what graphic design is to me, and mentioning the different categories of an graphic designer. I really do see both types in my classes!
I wish this was standard reading in the classes i’m currently in (no harshness intended!).
This is an old transcript, but it is incredibly well structured. Please as graphic designers, or students, or whoever you are, give it a read!
As a television series, Jamie Oliver (or whoever) had an idea to create a scheme training younger kids and young adults who seemingly have ill futures and transform them into professional chefs, with a future in the food industry. Using his efforts and commitment to spark creativity and enthusiasm for food into these young kids, Jamie nulls the money spent and forgoes his vision.
Now there is 4 locations of ‘fifteen’, originally named for the 15 young trainee’s selected; existing in Amsterdam, Cornwall, London and Melbourne, this is a very serious movement which has taken steam the past couple years.
It’s inspiring in that very way, the ability of those who are passionate about a trade opening up their world and influencing the future.
They have a good site too, and the use of pink and the modern feel overall is completely suitable for this restaurant and its purpose.
Wow this is a great video with Michael Beirut from CreativeMornings.com. It’s about 50 minutes long, so if you have the time, sit back and relax and watch. Pretty insightful, and good for people like me who are looking into the field. Bierut touches on the whole subject of “Clients”, based on his 30 years of experience as a designer. Definitely worth the watch.
